Are you fit and healthy sometimes?
The power and compounding effect of consistency is a vital key to success in any endeavor.
It’s the bridge between where you are today and where you aspire to be in the future and is the sum of compounding efforts repeated every single day, over and over to get the result you want. Quite often these efforts are boring, monotonous and tedious!
The success you see some people achieve with their health and fitness is based on doing activities that they simply don’t want to do every day, but they do them anyway. This is the defining difference between success and failure with health and fitness.
Some people are willing to do what others are not, and they do it on a daily basis until they get the results they want.
Whatever you are consistent with every day will yield results. If you eat junk food, drink too much coffee, don’t exercise, then you will consistently be unhealthy and unfit.
What do you chose to be consistent in?
Health producing daily efforts or health deteriorating efforts? Are you healthy and fit sometimes, or consistently very day?
Here are some tips and strategies you can put in place to help master consistency and not only get the results you want with your health and fitness, but also in other areas of your life as well.
- Keep your focus and attention on the end game and be very clear on what it is you ultimately want. Once you’ve got this, you can reverse engineer it to define the exact steps you need to take to get those results. But! Just defining the steps won’t be enough, you have to be committed to consistently doing them every day.
- Don’t try to correct all your poor health habits at once. Pick the one that is most pressing, work on it, nail it and then move on to the next one. If you need to lose some body fat and you don’t eat breakfast, start by creating the habit of eating breakfast and do it for 4-6 weeks, then maybe focus on your sugar consumption. It’s about compounding the actions and benefits…layering one on top of the other.
- Schedule all your health giving habits. If you’re like most people, you probably try to fit your exercise, healthy cooking, rest etc. around a busy life schedule. Take an inventory of your daily schedule and seriously decide if it’s taking you away from what you want to achieve or moving you towards it. Say you’ve decided to take a healthy, home made lunch to work, but you don’t allow time in your morning schedule to get it ready. You still get up at the same time, rather than getting up 15 minutes earlier to get it ready. Put it in you calendar and you will be amazed at how effective this is.
- Boot the excuses! We could all come up with loads of reasons to not do a training session or eat healthy nutrition. I’m too tired, stressed…It’s too hot, cold…I’ve got too much work etc. Not everybody feels like doing exercise every single time they have a workout scheduled, but consistency teaches you the self-discipline to just stick with it…regardless of how you are feeling. If you do this, you give your body no option but to change! It’s that compounding effect again, daily habits regardless of how you are feeling.
- If you fall off the wagon and lose consistency with your healthy daily efforts, that’s ok, we all do that! The defining difference between health and fitness success or failure is how quickly you get back on track. Don’t use it as an excuse to go back to old habits or give up on getting the results you want. Be flexible but steadfast in your commitment to your success.
Health, fitness and wellness is a lifestyle, not something that you do for a few months, or even a few years. It requires consistent commitment, especially when you are faced with obstacles, but the rewards are worth it.
