I am a lifelong mover with a passion for intelligent, deliberate and transformative movement. After a 20 year career as a professional dancer in both Los Angeles & New York City, I was waylaid by a disc herniation and pilates became an integral part of my movement repertoire.
I took a 10 year hiatus from movement as an occupation and pursued a career in hospitality, culminating in running my own wine bar out of a converted Laundromat in Sydney’s Darlinghurst.
Needless to say, I enjoy thinking on my feet and helping others with their bodies, whether it be through their stomachs or minds.
My transition into becoming fully certified and teaching full time in pilates was a deep dive back into the world of the body and what feels like my natural state of being.
I came to realise that pilates had always been a part of my movement journey, even from a young age as my mentors were of a certain generation that were greatly influenced and inspired by Joseph, Clara (his often uncredited wife and co creator) as well as the 1st generation of teachers (‘the elders’ as they are sometimes called) like Romana Kyyzanowska , Kathleen Stanford Grant and Eve Gentry.
I am motivated to learn each time I teach and studying the body and all its complexities is a never ending source of inspiration. I hope to impart some of that enthusiasm for curiosity in my teaching and find the challenges presented in each session with a client extremely rewarding.
Favourite food:
Oh so hard to decide, but I have a certain penchant for Vietnamese with its fresh, clean and wonderfully spicy elements. However, living with a Frenchman, I can’t go past life’s simple pleasures like a freshly baked baguette & butter to accompany a big pot of mussels in white wine cream sauce (drool).
Really, my love language is food, so I am my most relaxed and happy whilst sharing beautiful food with those I love and have been known to do a little happy food dance if it is particularly pleasing to the palate.
Favourite exercise:
Also very hard choice, I would say it is a tie between: Elephant on the reformer, I love the combination of deep abdominal integration with the great stretch in the backline. And the humble rolldown- it can tell you so much about where your body is at in the moment it can also be adapted on all the apparatus and become a completely different exercise
Mat or Equipment:
What a choice! If I had to choose it would be mat, it’s the dancer in me that enjoys having nothing else but my body to hold me accountable for the movement and sensation created in my muscles.
Best Thing about being a Pilates teacher:
Working with the wide array of wonderful humans and their ever fascinating bodies. Helping clients regain confidence in their bodies after an injury or for the 1st time is an incredibly rewarding endeavor. Pilates gives me a structure to present the movement knowledge that lives within me in and through the systems the exercises provide, these can be tailored in an endless combination to suit any and every body.
What I love about Pilates Plus:
The integrity and drive of the entire team to pass on the wonderful work that is traditional Pilates.
Favourite thing to do on the weekend:
Hang with my boys (husband, 10 year old son , 13 year old Blue heeler x Corgi)! Often incorporating my love language (food) into the mix as we explore all the reaches of Victoria, star gazing, baseball playing, cycling, swimming, op shopping and of course dancing. Music plays a big role in my family’s life so we always have the best soundtrack to all our adventures. I also love a good Sunday nap to get me ready for my early Monday morning classes.
