Why Pilates is "Anti Aging"

Why Pilates is "Anti Aging"

It doesn’t matter what your age is in years, if you’re living on this planet, you are getting older.

Our mindset about aging is going through a big transformation with more and more people NOT accepting the traditional idea of a decline in quality of life as we advance in years.

Staying healthy, fit, active and capable of participating in all the life activities that people love to do is the “new old”.

That doesn’t equate to some epic sporting performance (although it could), but it could be as simple as being able to play with the kids at the park, getting up and down from the floor, being capable of travel or going for a long walk or having mountains of energy and vitality.

So where does pilates fit in to healthy aging?

“We retire too early and we die too young. Our prime of life should be in the 70’s and old age should not come until we are almost 100.” Joseph Pilates

The philosophy behind the Pilates Method of Exercise is based on health and happiness for everyday life but also for the duration of your life.

To achieve this, you need to develop your physical fitness for movement capability, not just for “strength” or “fitness”.

“A man is as young as his spinal column.” Joseph Pilates

The health of your spine should be the number one priority of any exercise program. The spine, and all joints of the body will degenerate as we age.

This can create enormous problems with either acute or chronic pain, loss of movement capability and a very poor quality of life.

If you have ever experienced an injury to any part of your body, you know how challenging it can be to over come an injury both physically and mentally, especially as our body gets older.

If you take care of your spine and joints and develop strength, flexibility, mobility and structural resilience, you can in fact, slow this process down and maintain a pain free, high quality of movement and daily life!

Pilates does this and much more.

It’s the only strength training method that has the health and fitness of the spinal column as the core principle.

Practicing pilates doesn’t guarantee that you will never experience an injury, but it’s like an insurance policy and is mighty handy when and if you do need to rely on your physical resilience to overcome a challenge with your health and fitness.

Don’t wait for an issue or injury to happen in your body before taking action.

Be proactive, develop your health and fitness insurance policy and start learning and practicing pilates today.
